Guess Everybody’s Favorite Beverage

So today was “Guess Everybody’s Favorite Beverage” day. Participants resourceful enough to remember to grab something from the fridge this morning all brought in the drink of their choice; the forgetful ran out and got their representative beverage at lunch. The drinks are all now spread across the conference table here in the Design Department. A total of twenty. Each drink is numbered.

My guess:

1. Grey Goose Vodka = JANET
2. Mountain Dew = SEAN
3. Water and lemon = CLAUDIA
4. Black currant tea = HERBERT
5. V8 = JENNIFER H.
6. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale = DUH
7. Lion Chocolate Mocha = DOUG
8. Red Bull = DAVE C.
9. Pepsi and Grey Goose = DAVE R.
10. Trader Joe’s Sparkling Pomegranate = JENNIFER N.
11. Diet Pepsi = MARK
12. Cherry Coke = GRACE
13. Starbucks Americano = FAYE
14. Epoca Cool = LAUREN
15. Orchid Mandarin Orange Drink = DANIEL
16. Stewart’s Ginger Beer = GINA
17. Schweppe’s Bitter Lemon = PEGGY
18. A fountain soda from Del Taco = ALAN
19. Dr. Pepper = WENDY
20. A fountain soda from Carl’s Jr. = GEORGE

I came out four for twenty, not including my own, which is actually four for nineteen. That’s better than one in five. Batting just over .200; right on the Mendoza Line.

What’s amazing is that there was only one duplicate.

It is, isn’t it? Moral of the story: There’s plenty of opportunity for niche marketing in the beverage industry.
