Text-to-speech for blind readers

Speech synthesis is the artificial production of human speech. A computer system used for this purpose is called a speech synthesizer, and can be implemented in software or hardware. A text-to-speech (TTS) system converts normal language text into speech.

The Amazon Kindle supports TTS, giving unsighted readers the ability to enjoy an ebook (not an audio book). Try doing THAT with paper, eh?

Under Angels recently received a review from a blind Amazon reader who experienced the tale using the TTS feature on her Kindle.

“In the end, this is an incredibly human story, about love, loyalty and, ultimately life, and by the time I had read the last word, I had fully realized how glad I was that I had persevered and that this book touched me, intellectually and emotionally.

I enjoyed the writing style, too, it is sometimes tender, sometimes brutal, but always challenging in all the best ways.”

From her Amazon bio:

“My Kindle and I are spiritually, if not surgically, attached.”

Thank you, ma’am. =j
