Joined forces with friend and fellow author Sean Traver this past weekend to put on an Under Angels exhibit at the Comikaze Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center. A three-day bender. Met some cool people, sold some books. A blast.

I’d actually never experienced this culture up close before. It’s indeed a freakshow, but after a few hours, you start getting desensitized and nothing’s all that weird anymore. By Saturday, I was really digging the vibe. Tons of creatives roaming around. To fit in, I whipped out the Greamer duds on Saturday.

I wasn’t alone, either. Likenesses I ran into were every superhero could imagine, along with other pop culture icons. Doc from Back to the Future. Avatar. Ghostbusters. Kiss. Homer Simpson. Vader and his posse. Mario. And steampunk. Lots of steampunk. It was endless.

Personalities in attendance included Lou Ferrigno, Elvira, Weird Al Yankovic, Louie Anderson, Edward James Olmos, Dean Cain, and even Mike Teavee from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

We’re gonna do it again, as the Comikaze Expo is now positioned to become even bigger than Comic-Con on the west coast. According to Forbes, it was a rousing success.

Took lots of pics over the weekend. In no particular order:

Robert McKee’s Story Seminar has been attended by thousands over the years and has been one of the most influential courses on modern storytelling and screenwriting. In this 2010 video, he makes a case for the power of story as perhaps the most effective way to communicate and persuade.

If you’re not familiar with current trends, kids these days have this subtle thing where they never take the stickers and tags off their collected ballcaps. Key & Peele nail the ridiculousness here:

fibonacci sequence golden ratio

The Fibonacci sequence found in our hand forms a perfect spiral when we clench our fist.

Pop and the bros came out to Hollywood yesterday to catch the ballgame. Afterward, I took ’em for a walk down to Hollywood Boulevard to let them experience the spectacle that is Hollywood Boulevard.

The first performer we saw was a gentleman dressed as Meadowlark Lemon. Queuing up his audio tape and loudly announcing to the world that “it’s showtime,” he removed his shirt and launched into his act. Talented guy.

After watching the hot dogging for about twenty seconds, Pop had one question:

Dodger Stadium DodgerVision tweet vin scully

Ah, the sheer awesomeness of the tweet/blog/cellphone combination. This is not Photoshop.

Special thanks to my newest friend named Robbie, who happened to snap this photo of the DodgerVision screen on September 12, 2013. Tracked me down today and filled out my site’s contact form.

It’s our year. We’ve done our time. We’ve endured our pain. We deserve. Stars are aligned. And we’ve still got Vin with us. Lucky thirteen it shall be. GO BLUE!!!

Behold the classicness as Vin Scully calls this blowout game up at Candlestick Park back in 1979. It’s got it all. Lopes 2B, Russell SS, Garvey 1B, Cey 3B, Baker LF, Ferguson C, Hatcher RF, Thomas CF. Sutton turning in a gem. The pants. The commercials. The whole thing. I was ten.

Vin Scully alone makes this thing worth rolling as background music. It’s as good a game to take in as any other.
