After the Drywall Hang

Are we there yet?

So here we are. September 12th. Had a few setbacks the last few days, including an electrical diversion, a head cold, the decision to do speakers in the soffit’s ceiling for surround sound, and a re-opened cut finger that required more stitches. This equated to a delayed drywall hang, wasting a couple days, which made for a frustrating weekend.

But it all worked out. The delay presented the opportunity to sidestep the need for me to get in there and participate in the drywall hang first-hand. My buddy/neighbor/electrician Roy just had Miguel paint his house, and Miguel was wide open this week. It so happens that Miguel did some work for me back in 2001, drywalling my garage and framing some storage space below the roof. He also painted my house in 2002. This relationship put him in a good enough mood to cut me a good deal on the complete drywall hang, mud, and tape, with a projected “ready for paint” day this Friday. He brought his wingman Lorenzo in, and they got started this morning. We’re on schedule.

I think we’re around Day 11 on the project, but we’ll just regroup and consider this Drywall Day 1. Here are some shots taken this afternoon showing the results of their full first day of hanging drywall. They rocked it out quick. I feel kinda guilty for spending the better part of day at the beach with the dogs. Actually, no I don’t.

Tomorrow’s patching. Then it’s time to break out the primer.
