Joined forces with friend and fellow author Sean Traver this past weekend to put on an Under Angels exhibit at the Comikaze Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center. A three-day bender. Met some cool people, sold some books. A blast.
I’d actually never experienced this culture up close before. It’s indeed a freakshow, but after a few hours, you start getting desensitized and nothing’s all that weird anymore. By Saturday, I was really digging the vibe. Tons of creatives roaming around. To fit in, I whipped out the Greamer duds on Saturday.
I wasn’t alone, either. Likenesses I ran into were every superhero could imagine, along with other pop culture icons. Doc from Back to the Future. Avatar. Ghostbusters. Kiss. Homer Simpson. Vader and his posse. Mario. And steampunk. Lots of steampunk. It was endless.
Personalities in attendance included Lou Ferrigno, Elvira, Weird Al Yankovic, Louie Anderson, Edward James Olmos, Dean Cain, and even Mike Teavee from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
We’re gonna do it again, as the Comikaze Expo is now positioned to become even bigger than Comic-Con on the west coast. According to Forbes, it was a rousing success.
Took lots of pics over the weekend. In no particular order:
↑ I honestly didn’t realize Louie Anderson was still alive.
↑ Elvira. Left her wig in the car.
↑ Weird Al Yankovic.
↑ Stan Lee himself onstage behind Greamer.
