Halloween ‘06 Haiku

Halloween ‘06.
Is it a trick, or a treat?
Feels like the former.

Kona and Vive at the Hollywood sign

Chilling out and enjoying the reward of a big hike in Griffith Park. The camera’s looking west from Mount Hollywood shortly before sunset, with a sideview of the Hollywood sign near the upper right of the photos.

I’m so proud of Kona, who’s coming up on eight years this week. She hung in there for a good seven miles.

Griffith Park Hawk

hawk at Griffith Park

We took a seven mile hike up to Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park today. The peak brought us just east of the Hollywood sign.

One of the first things we did was spend a few moments admiring a hawk soaring overhead. I whipped out the camera and caught it on video.

Kona and Vivor’s new pad

As Fall sets in, we ordered a unique duplex house for the dogs. It has an optional divider that splits the unit into two separate units. Whether or not this is what they personally prefer will be a matter of testing. My guess is that Kona would be for it, while Vive would probably prefer to snuggle up with his sister in an absence of the divider. We’re starting with the former configuration to see how that goes.

Vive and the doghouse

What’s funny right now is that neither of them have quite caught on to the fact that they can go right throught the clear plastic weather strips. Like a newly installed doggie-door, I threw treats in the house and held the door open for Vive. He happily went in to eat the treat, but then assumed he was locked inside and made no attempt to come back out.

Party Haiku

Stop for a moment.
Forget everything you know.
Let’s have a good time.

Listen up, kids.

Mole Removal

I had a mole on my neck ever since I was young, and recently developed one on my cheek right on my jawline. I had it checked out, and went in for a removal a few weeks ago.

Just got the news that they’re clean. So I guess the good news is that when I die, it won’t be because of the moles.

Reducing Sodium Intake

Sodium makes up 40 percent of table salt so that 3000 mg of salt (about one level teaspoon or three packets of salt) contain 1200 mg of sodium, which is the ingredient listed on the label of all processed food. Most fresh foods have a low sodium content, but sodium is often added during food and beverage processing. In the American diet, this added sodium accounts for about 80 percent of a person’s total sodium intake.

Several lines of evidence strongly link a high sodium intake to hypertension. As an example, hypertension rarely occurs in countries in which people consume less than 1000 mg per day of sodium; it primarily occurs in countries in which people consume more than 2000 mg of sodium per day. Most Americans consume about 4000 milligrams of sodium per day.
