Weckl warm-up

A certain warm-up exercise just sprung into my hands from my subconscious. There are variations on this (see the Stone Killer), but for some reason this one’s less boring. I believe I saw Dave Weckl do it years ago. Let’s go with that.

It’s a good one to reach for if you’re starting cold. Play all notes as triplets with no accents:

2/4 – RRR LLL (repeat 10x)
4/4 – RRR RRR LLL LLL (repeat 10x)
3/4 – RRR RRR RRR | LLL LLL LLL (repeat 10x)
4/4 – RRR RRR RRR RRR | LLL LLL LLL (repeat 10x)
5/4 – RRR RRR RRR RRR RRR | LLL LLL LLL LLL LLL (repeat 10x)

Get the idea? Proceed by taking it up to 6/4, 7/4, 8/4, 9/4 and 10/4, then back down through 9/4, 8/4, 7/4 … to 2/4. Burn through this one and you’re good to go. OPTIONAL: End with a flam.
